Understanding the New Dimensional Model of Personality Disorders and an Introduction to Treatment Strategies

This course is Quality Checked by the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). This course alone is not a route to the Accredited Register, nor does it fully equip a graduate to practice as a qualified counsellor or refer to themselves as ‘a specialist’ in the subject matter unless they have other qualifications/training to support this.

This workshop will explore the key principles of the new dimensional models used to define personality disorders.  Consider issues Personality Disorders generate for the client, their families and the therapist. Give an introduction to various treatment and management protocols and strategies currently being used in therapeutic practice.

• Defining personality traits and types using the DSM5 alternative model of personality disorders 
• Understanding background causes to Personality Disorders
• Understanding the key principle of the single traits concept of excesses and deficiencies in PDs
• Understanding key defence mechanisms used in each presenting Personality Disorder
• Understanding of Treatment and Management Protocols
• Develop understanding and application of techniques for both Management and Treatment
