An Overview and Understanding of Personality Disorders for Therapy and Coaching work

This online CPD event is quality assured by the National Counselling Society and includes issue of a CPD Certificate for six hours CPD

This course is Quality Checked by the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). This course alone is not a route to the Accredited Register, nor does it fully equip a graduate to practice as a qualified counsellor or refer to themselves as ‘a specialist’ in the subject matter unless they have other qualifications/training to support this.

This workshop will give a basic understanding of the various Personality Disorders together with a better insight to the key Personality Traits of each PD. It will give better understanding as to why certain therapeutic / coaching approaches and interventions may not be working and how to better understand a client with a possible PD and the way they view the World.

Objectives

• Defining personality disorders and types.
• Understanding the main characteristics of the ten clinical personality disorders listed in the DSM5.
• Understanding functional and dysfunctional personality (the difference between a personality type and disorder).
• Understanding how an understanding of Personality can help in our work as therapists and coaches.
• Developing some initial management strategies for each of the ten personality disorders.
• Use of case studies and reflective exercises to understand and identify personality types and disorders.
